CAMPERS ENJOY A TOUR OF THE OLD US MINT

Louis' trumpet at The Mint

The Old U.S. Mint is the location of the Louisiana Historical Center, The New Orleans Jazz Club Collections of the Louisiana State Museum, and the new performing arts center. Our young curators visited The Mint on Thursday to get a better idea of how museums can educate, entertain and enlighten visitors on subjects as diverse and difficult as music and heritage.
Our campers were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the performing arts center and were delighted when they were allowed to do a little performance of their own.  The highlight of the visit was Louis Armstrong's trumpet from his days as a child at the waif's home.
We offer a very special "thank you" to the staff at The Mint for their hospitality and generosity!

Their performance could be seen on flat screen TVs located throughout the museum!
